Premier League Match-Day 35 Recap

Match Day 35: The end of era

From: www.skynews.com

Before the weekend of football had started possibly the biggest news story of the week had broken, that being the retirement of Arsene Wenger who has manged Arsenal for an incredible 22 years in an era where managers are sacked left right and centre, to manage a team for that long and leave on your own terms is a remarkable achievement in itself let alone everything else he has done for not only Arsenal FC but English football in general and will forever be remembered for his contributions.

With the FA Cup semi-finals being played over the weekend there were mid-week games played to compensate with Tottenham dropping points away to Brighton, whilst Manchester United came away with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth and with Liverpool conceding a late goal courtesy of a Saloman Rondon header  away at West Brom, it is likely that the two Manchester teams will occupy the two top spots come seasons end.

As the champions have already been decided and who will finish in the top 4 seems to become clearer each week, a lot of the attention has turned to the bottom half of the standings, as mentioned before West Brom kept their slim survival hopes still alive whilst Stoke did the same with a solid draw against Burnley with Southampton and Stoke having a game in hand over West Brom there chance of survival seems more likely.

Arsenal have continued there Home form with another win over West Ham with many fans thinking what could've been if they had a better away record as they sit in 2nd place on the home table in contrast to 12th on the away table, with an important Home fixture to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League this week they team and fans will be hoping to give Arsene Wenger one last piece of silverware before he departs if they can get past a strong Atletico lineup.

With nothing else to play for this season as the Premier league is already wrapped up and being knocked out of the champions league and FA cup, you'd be forgiven for Man City taking their foot off the throttle, but that was quite the opposite as they put 5 past Swansea who are still fighting for survival.
