Rafael Nadal claimed his 11th win in Monte Carlo with his bewildering game play. He solidified his status as ranked no.1 in the world by going 6-3 6-2 against Kei Nishikori, the rank 22 pro, in 93 minutes. This also means that Nadal is the firm favourite to win at the 2018 French Open for the 11th time, which is especially the case given that rival and world no.2 Roger Federer would not be participating in the clay court seasion.
Nadal's performance for the Barcelona Open has also been impressive, given it was immediately after the Monte Carlo Masters. He eased his way into the Barcelona quarter-finals and extended his record to 40 consecutive sets won on clay by beating fellow Spaniard Guillermo Garcia Lopez 6-1 6-3, and is facing Martin Klizan from Slovakia.
